Job Shadows Research Paper

Have you ever wondered what it was like for the employees of a ConvenientCare Center? While searching for job Shadows, I was given an opportunity to job shadow at one of those centers. I was excited to see how they function compared to a normal doctor’s office. My boyfriend's mother is a nurse practitioner. Although she could not provide me with an interview, she did help me to set up a job shadow through her work. Donna Shaffer helped me to get my first job shadow, through the Heritage Valley Health System. I was to be shadowing Denette Hallam. She was the front desk receptionist and the medical assistant of the ConvenientCare Center. She was very soft-spoken and kind. Denette started by showing me where the bathroom and break room was. She also introduced me to the provider that was working that day. Dr. Marla Slayton was very friendly and seemed to treat Danette with great respect. Our morning went by very fast. Jeanette and I had a lot of patients come in because these centers are for walk-in situations. We never knew how many patients would come in, so Denette stressed the importance of keeping up with paperwork and not procrastinating. The computer programs that they used are called NextGen and Allscripts. NextGen was used to check-in patients. It would store the patient's demographic and insurance information into the Heritage Valley Health System network. The Allscripts program is used for placing prescriptions or sending out orders. At First, I felt overwhelmed because Denette works very fast. Luckily, she would also explain things to me as she would do

During my attendance to the Seattle Children’s Hospital Nursing Camp, I job shadowed multiple Registered Nurses in the Cancer Care Unit, Medical Floor, Operating Room, and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. In each department, I was able to observe the daily tasks of a nurse and how they interact with different patients. Not only did I job shadow nurses, but I also learned how to different procedures, such as: how to replace a trachea device, take blood pressures, insert feeding tubes, and how to inject vitamins and foods into feeding tubes. Clinical Information Systems When coming from a nursing background, which spanned over 35 years, I find it difficult to discuss at “least one influence of Clinical Information System on healthcare delivery.” I find it tempting to pontificate upon the many years of transcribing physician’s orders. Prior to computerized physician-order entry (CPOE), transcribing physician orders was an often futile, time consuming event, which required interpreting illegible handwriting, checks, double and triple checks, and finally tracking down the physician who wrote the order by telephone, awaiting hours for their return call, and getting reprimanded for bothering them, while your patient was waiting for their new treatment, and the family is disturbed with the nurse for the physicians failure to clarify orders in a timely fashion. But I digress.…

I felt comfortable when contacting the office manager, Diana Sood but before I remembered this clinic existed, I remember finding myself thinking throughout this semester, as to who I can contact, to learn more information about being in the healthcare field, no one really seemed to stand out and it was actually kind of a nerve wrecking experience thinking that I would have to talk to someone in such a high standing position, but eventually it came to mind that talking to these professionals aren’t as intimidating as I may think and luckily, I’ve been in many hospitals and medical offices before.…
