It is such an empowering feeling knowing even though my part was little it was still apart of a big plan. It is also so rewarding when seeing how truly grateful the organization is for each and every volunteer. The best benefit to me is meeting all of the extraordinary men and women who have been affected by breast cancer. Thousands of people die each year from this disease and being able to help make a difference for finding the cure is one of the best feelings. Their stories are of course heartbreaking but also admirable because they don’t give up.…

I went to their orientation and heard what they stood for and what they would help me accomplish. I gave it some time and after a while I decided to attend the Gerald Ford Job Corps. It was difficult coming here for the first time. She is currently doing her internship at Nacogdoches Independent School District. She is one of the few interns that work in NISD. Perla serves multiple schools and grade levels in the district because she is bilingual in English and Spanish. However, it is important to note that during my observations of Perla and my shadow experiences were at the local elementary schools sites around Nacogdoches including Fredonia Elementary, Nettie Marshall Elementary, and Carpenter Elementary.…

Shadowing Experience and Reflection Over Thanksgiving break, I had the opportunity to shadow Mrs. Karen Feldmeyer at Atrium Medical Center in Middletown Ohio. During my four-hour visit, I experienced aspects of nutrition in a multitude of different settings including the psychiatric wing, the intensive care unit, and a physical therapy panel. Each of these opportunities provided me with a different perspective on the importance of nutrition, and how nutrition impacts a patient’s recovery process. Mrs. Feldmeyer has been Manager of Nutrition Services at Atrium for the past nine years, and is in charge of a large staff with a variety of different personalities. I chose to teach my chemistry class about grit. As our new trimester has just started, I felt that it was an ideal time to begin direct character instruction, and specifically a good time to introduce grit and how it relates to success both in and out of the classroom.
