During my Job Shadow I got to meet with multiple officers, sergeants and even the chief. They all had different ways of getting into the law enforcement, but it all depends and how you want to see yourself in the future. I very much enjoyed job shadowing police officers because I got a better feeling of what I want to do. Something I felt that made me choosing to continue with my future career, is the ride along. A ride along is where a police officer takes you out on the field during their shift so you can see what happens in the real world and how they do their job. Being able to see how police officers get into action in the matter of seconds makes me realize that their job isn’t easy and it requires a lot of communication and

When considering what career I wanted to achieve I was given a substantial amount of advice; starting with choosing something that you are passionate about and ending with researching everything you can about what you want to do. Having been given advice, and learned from past experiences that I needed to listen to all the advice. So I thought long and hard about what my dream job would be. I knew it had to be something where I was helping people. After my freshman year in college, I knew without a doubt that I wanted to do something with psychology, hopefully using animal assisted therapy.…

It’s no secret that Police Officers have one of the most stressful and worrisome job in the world. This is a profession that requires to master both cognitive thinking and physical ability on top of the daily changing social pressures that every officer has to deal with on a day to day basis especially in today’s watchful political eye. Members of the police are expected to not only be perfect law abiding citizens both on and off duty but they are also expected to be supermen with an absolute knowledge of how to react in certain situations. It’s not enough for a police officer to be physically trained for the entirety of a month (not including high school and college education) it takes a degree of awareness of what tool would be best to use in the right situation.…

Growing up I never had a clear idea of what I wanted to do as a profession. No inclination of something that amazed me or pushed me toward it. I eventually chose what I thought would be a good stable career simply because it would be a financially good choice but it never seemed like something I could stick with or love. I discounted anything from the medical field because everyone was going there and I didn't want to be a lost number of people rushing to the same career, I wanted to be a little different.…

From a young age I have wanted to protect people even to the extent of giving my life. When people ask me why I want to join law enforcement, my response is, “I have had times in my life that I need someone to protect me, yet no one was there to do so, and I do not want anyone to have to go through what I had to.” I believe I would be successful because I have the drive and determination that is crucial to being successful in the field of law enforcement. I have also taken part in the Explorers Program; a program created for those who have interest on law enforcement but do not meet the age requirement to do so and are taught by law enforcement officers about the profession until they are of age to join law enforcement. The Explorers Program quickly separates fact from fiction, what you see on TV and actuality, by education young citizens about the judicial system and law enforcement and pushes individuals to see if law enforcement is their true passion.…

Starting out with the deputies, there were two deputies that I felt took me under their wing and taught me everything they know. They were always asking me to go on runs and helping me with ask tasks I needed to complete. My supervisors also helped me with anything I needed. In class a lot is learned about the different rankings, necessary education, and the court systems but talking to an officer gives you personal insight on what he has to go through in everyday life. You can hear how actually dangerous their jobs can be rather than just reading it. You can hear how much they want to keep their community safe rather than just hating them for giving you a speeding ticket. They tell you things they enjoy and dislike doing in their line of work and see how much action they actually have to deal with rather than just relying on stereotypes from movies. I have a new found respect for officers, for the ones who actually care and enjoy their line of work to better the community that they work…
