Job Shadow

On February 28th 2017, I was scheduled to job shadow the General Manager/ Certified Chef at Crafthouse in Weatherford, Oklahoma. The General Manager that I followed around was Tyler Stinson. He has an associate’s degree in culinary arts and sciences. He has been in the Service and hospitality business since he was 15 years old, for nearly 20 years, with 12 years of that being in management positions. He attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University as a history education major, he then decided that wasn’t for him. So he transferred to Platte College and got into the culinary program. He was Chosen to be student of the year with a GPA of 3.9 and top of his class.
Throughout my job shadow, Tyler’s knowledge and willingness to show me the “behind

I asked him “why did you choose this career” and “what personality traits are important for his job.” He replied with “all he knew growing up was food, with his father’s side being German and his mother’s side French. Everything in his life revolved around food, and he fell in love with it. I also asked him questions including “what do you like best about your job?’ and “what don’t you like about your job.” He explained to me that he loved the social interaction, creativity, and the staff. When I asked what he didn’t like about his job, he replied with its STRESSFUL, there is always something that is needing catching up on. He told me about his four month externship, and some of the courses he attended to become who he is today. Overall, he explained to me all the ends and outs of the job.
In conclusion, throughout our 3 hour job shadow, I learned so much from the business and kitchen aspect of this experience that I wouldn’t trade for anything. My plan for moving forward would be to cease in my “dream” of being a certified chef and owning my own restaurant. After this job shadow, I realized that the only reason I chose this path, was because this is all I know. I honestly don’t have the desire to cook my whole life and to run a restaurant from head to toe. However, I am glad that I realized this soon and can start to think of my other

It’s a wonderful evening at Chick-fil-A this is Reagan, how can I serve you? These words will be sketched into my brain for the remainder of my life. Even though those words are associated with many failures and obstacles, they represent the great things that transpired from those struggles. Failures are relative, to academics, family wishes, personal goals, or cultural beliefs.…

When we first received this project, Ken Dickinson, was the first person I thought would benefit the class. Since he is the owner of two Culver’s franchises, I figure there would be a lot he could explain to us that will help us for the future. In regards to that, I was not always able to talk to him; especially since we were at work. The day after we received this project, I arrived to Culver’s before my shift and explained the “W’s” of this project and proceeded to get him email to send him further information. He was a great candidate for the project because he had the knowledge of starting from the bottom, working side-by-side with a corporation, getting to own a company with many employees, dealing with money and schedules, and complying…

“Climbing The Golden Arches” is an essay written by Marissa Nuñez published originally in New Youth Connections, republished in The Norton Sampler. The main idea of this essay is that although the road to a successful career is fraught with hardships, it can be overcome with hard work and determination. At the beginning of the essay, Nuñez describes a scene in which she and her cousin went to eat at McDonald’s and decided to try out for a job there out of curiosity. They filed their applications and about a month later had their job interviews in which both passed. The author was initially surprised to receive the job but that turned into happiness when she realized that she no longer would have to depend on her mother for money anymore.…

For my human sexuality class, I was to conduct a sexual interview with an individual focusing on sexuality. We were to ask questions focusing on the individual’s attitudes and feelings towards sexuality and any misconceptions they may have held about sexuality. This activity also allowed the interviewer to become aware of their own feelings and attitudes about sexuality during the interview. I intentionally wanted to conduct this interview with a male, because asking questions around sexuality with males is an issue I am still learning to become comfortable with. Working as a family based therapist I have to ask questions surrounded around sexual activity, sexual trauma, and being to provide parents and adolescent with resources about sexual education.…

Over the years, I have learned that growing up in a family business atmosphere has carved me to who I am today. Growing up, every semester break or public holiday, I would always attend to work at my father's pizzeria to help out and learn about the business. Being the eldest daughter in the family, my father placed a big responsibility on me to learn inside and outside of the business.…
