Officer Karnes is a veteran police officer but still relatively new in his current assignment. He consistently meets the job factor expectations in this rating category and his knowledge base is very good in this area. Officer Karnes can be counted on to deploy his canine in a manner consistent with the Springfield Police Department policy. Officer Karnes understands what questions need to be asked prior to a PSD deployment for a given situation. His reports are occasionally returned for minor spelling or grammar corrections, but very rarely for additional information. According to the NICHE reporting system he completed 64 vehicle stops and 78 racial profiling forms. Officer Karnes maintains his uniforms and equipment and has never been observed to be out of compliance. Due to the nature of his assignment, Officer Karnes is frequently called upon to participate in demonstrations with his PSD with various community groups. This usually involves adjusting his scheduled work hours as well as speaking to a wide variety of audiences. Officer Karnes is effective in involving members of his audience with his presentations and takes the necessary time to answer their questions about the department and PSD program so they have a more thorough understanding of both.
