I was a college dropout. My parents never finished school, I thought school was a waste of time. My dad was successful and he made it looks easy. He always told me to stay in school, that knowledge was power, but I disagreed. Therefore, I decided to earned my Cosmetology license at Paul Mitchell the School Chicago.…

My goal and purpose for attending Job Corps is to fulfill my dream in having a high school Diploma and a career. I came to Job Corps to make something out of myself and show people I can do anything, if I put my mind, my heart and my dedication into it. I know and feel Job Corps is a place that can help me pursue my future dream of becoming a professional chief. Job Corps is a federally funded program that helps young people between the ages of 16 through 24 years old to better themselves by providing a high school diploma and a trade. This program even offers many other opportunities which I plan to take good advantage of .…
I live in Brooklyn, so it took me about 45 min to get to Manhattan to get to greyhound , so I could be on my way to Glenmont Job Corps. I left the city around 9:00am and got to Glenmont around 12:45pm. When I arrived on the center of Glenmont Job Corps everything looked different to me. First I had to be searched me and my belongings at the welcome center which is basically the security booth. Then I was driving around the G-Walk to get a view of the center.…
A day that was memorable to me in my life was the day I came to Job Corps. Before job corps, I was working with a contractor named Dale Biship. It was an under-the-table job, but it did help in some cases. I had about three to four jobs. One was with Dale working on houses/apartments and churches.…

I attended Lake Clifton High School in Baltimore City from 2014. My high school was in the northeastern area of Baltimore City; I took a city bus to get there because I lived in west Baltimore. I chose to attend that school because my cousin and many of my friends were there. I fit right in and I felt comfortable because I knew many students. I only remained at Lake Clifton for two years because that high school was closed down by the Board of Education; the buildings were very old.…
One memory that means a lot to me is when I got to go to Hume Lake. This last summer I went to Hume Lake Christian Camp for the first time. This was a life changing experience. The reason that this was life changing included getting closer to my friends by doing things we could not do at home. This included me going on hikes, jumping off of rocks, and lastly talking over some good old milk shakes.…
My first day in job corps it was pretty awkward. It was new and weird to me because I really never met other people from other places before. Job corps was big and had different buildings around it. It resembled a college. It also has a baseball field.…
I felt overwhelmed; I did not know where to ask for information or where to go. I was nervous; I have never felt that before. It was not the same feeling from kindergarten or high school, I was shaking and my hand were sweating. I remember I that my mother told me “You can do it, this is what you want do not be nervous I´m here to supporting you”. Zamorano, for me is a dream come true and being here is the most important event of my life and the most unforgettable day I ever had before.…

Whenever, I needed help, other employees wouldn’t mind helping me out. There were a large number of people working there who were immigrants but no one was racist towards anyone. Everyone worked together and treated each other like a family so that helped me to be comfortable working with them. The workplace was always very clean, which also created a nice environment around me to focus on my work. That’s really a good thing because a nice working environment keeps me safe, healthy, and gives me more energy to do my work.…
ome of my greatest memories were of my learning in school. At the end of my second grade year, I was in a school bus accident. When I got to the hospital they said a had a head concoction, and needed to stay for testing to see how bad it was. I went to school with the ability to learn like all the other student, but came home with a long path to relearning all my school functions. My struggle through learning has been a lifelong process, through multiple programs, lots of encouragement, and a whole new attitude on literature I made it across the stage and off to college.…
