This was due to the Marxist policies that the earlier Mozambican National Resistance government had implemented. (Mzumara, 2011) Also another reason was the civil war itself had destabilised productivity within the economy. This is because in being affiliated with the Mozambican National Resistance party it can be assumed that he supported the policies they imposed which ended up leaving the people in a far worse situation than they were before. This is because in terms of “Edge,” Joaquim was on top of the issues of the economic crisis. The reason being the core source for the economic crisis were the pro Marxist polices implemented by the earlier government. So he had to make the tough choice of abolishing these policies which represented the core ideology of the ruling party.
