Joan of Arc, nicknamed "The Maid of Orléans," was born in 1412 in Domrémy, France (Joan of Arc Biography n.d.). She is considered a national heroine of France because at age 18 she led the French army to victory over the British at the Battle of Orléans. On April 29, Jean de Dunois mounted a divisionary attack against the English forces on the west side of Orleans, and Joan entered unopposed by its eastern gate (Hundred Years’ War: Siege of Orléans n.d.). She brought greatly needed supplies and reinforcements and inspired the French to a passionate resistance. On May 4 the main French army arrived, and French units moved against the fort at St. Loup (Hundred Years’ War: Siege of Orléans n.d.). She was also able to inspire motivation into the army troops and the Dauphin Charles. Joan was able to influence and motivate the Dauphin Charles into letting her help with the Battle of Orléans after proving to him that her visions were the truth. She also motivated the troops with her presence once she rejoined the battle after she was injured in the Battle of Orléans. Joan was able to intellectually stimulate the other French generals and commanders by challenging their plans and battle tactics. Lastly, Joan cared about the people following her. She cared about the suffering French people that led her to wanting to help with the war and she cared about the army that was under her
