Joan Of Arc Motivation

From the moment she first caught the imagination of her people in war-torn France, Joan of Arc has been the subject of many controversies. Was she a visionary or a witch? Did she seek personal fame, or was her concern only for the king and country? Did she really hear voices, or did she just make it all up for attention and fulfillment of her selfish motives? And if she did hear voices, was she delusional? Or could it be that she was truly touched by God?
At our great distance of half a millennium, we may not be competent enough to offer definitive answers for these questions. Each of us who confronts the facts about this extraordinary young woman may choose what to believe about her motivations, her mission, and her sanctity. As we live in the most technologically innovative, scientifically advanced century in mankind's history, it becomes more difficult

She was a military leader. But a military leader of what kind? Whether Joan’s leadership role was that of a motivational mascot or a true battle commander or something in between, whether she was driven by her own will and genius or was in fact guided by some force beyond material explanation is yet to be answered. If for a moment one set aside voices from God one cannot then fathom how an illiterate seventeen-year-old peasant girl with no military training lead an army that had known nothing but humiliation and defeat to sudden, repeated, and decisive victories? As Katherine Anne Porter wrote in her foreword to Regine Pernoud’s, ‘The retrial of Joan of Arc’, "She is unique, and a mystery, and as you read about her and think about her life, you are led up to a threshold beyond which she eludes you, you cannot cross it". One thing shall always remain clear- that Joan was exactly what she had to be to bring her people

In the play “Marie Antoinette,” written by David Adjmi and directed by Le’Mil Eiland, Alexis Primus takes on the role of Marie, the pompous, spoiled, and ignorant queen of France. I wasn’t originally going to discuss the lead character, however as I analyze Alexis’s character with greater thought, the more impressed I became. This play encourages people to view Marie from a new perspective, not only exposing Marie’s superfluous and greedy nature but also the misunderstanding and internal struggles she battles with that evolve from such a young age. Though some scenes were not as believable as others, I think that Alexis gave an excellent overall performance playing the role of Marie Antoinette. Through her facial expressions, vocal tones…

A majority of he writing seems to show people or give them a reason to continue their faith, and let them know that it is never to late to be with God. In this part of the story it was Sabbath, and she reflects on the amount of times she’s either misspent her time or not paid attention to. She mentions that God had every right to cast her out and or let her die, but he showed mercy to her. She writes, “Yet the Lord still showed mercy to me, and upheld me; He wounded knee with one hand, so he healed me with other,” (Rowlandson 131) this shows that because she lacked faith she was punished but since she regained it he helped her. This shows people that it is not to late to believe and be saved by him, they have opportunities to go back and re-exam their religious beliefs.…

Baited and Lured Aristophanes said, “Hunger knows no friend but its feeder” (BrainyQuote). In “Saint Marie (1934): Marie Lazarre,” from the novel Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich, begins with Marie Lazarre following the Nuns up the hill to the Sacred Heart Convent where she will become a protégé, not for the intentions of salvation, but to prevent Sister Leopolda from getting into heaven. In this story brimmed with layers of irony, Erdrich uses fishing and baiting imagery to demonstrate the ambition and hunger within Marie in her goal to rise above Sister Leopolda. Erdrich provides instances in which fishing and/or baiting is used to relate to the theme of religion, Marie’s ambitions, and the relationship between Marie and the Nuns, especially concerning Sister Leopolda. Religion is crucial to keep in mind when approaching this story.…
