JJ Abrams is a very popular director in today's cinema and widely considered as an auteur. He has helped rejuvenate the Sci-Fi genre in many ways. First off if you have seen any of JJ Abrams movies or TV series’s they all have one major similarity which is; whatever you think is going to happen next, something entirely different will happen, as the case in Lost. Also all of JJ Abrams work have been strongly character driven something that doesn’t always appear in movies, especially in the Sci-Fi genre where they often just try to bombard us with new futuristic effects.
He has also been quoted saying: “It’s important for the characters to be in the center…”[1], and how he always ‘prefers to focus more on character development rather than focusing on the action and big explosions’ [2]. You can see this philosophy in action when he directed Mission Impossible 3. Yes it’s still full of action but compared to the first two of the franchise we actually get some insight into ‘Ethan Hunt’ and it isn’t just about the gun fights and the explosions it’s about the character and the way JJ Abrams tells the story it makes ‘Ethan Hunt’ a bit more relatable causing the scenes when there is lots of action to have a bit more of an impact on the people watching. …show more content…

This supports the idea that JJ Abrams is an auteur because he is basically saying to the writers, producers and even the audience, that this is his film and that you will only get the next ‘clue or answer’ when he feels like giving you
