JIT AND ITS HISTORY :
Just-In-Time(JIT) manufacturing or production is the method of producing the products which are in demand to the customer needs and only the sufficient amount of it. Excess to the required produced is considered as a waste according to the JIT principles. Just in time was initially executed by Toyota in the mid 90 's due to several reasons. In the late 90 's the technique has spread to western nations mainly adopted by the manufacturing companies. OBJECTIVES:
The main aim of JIT manufacturing is to reduce the cycle time, process time and the response time between the supplier and the retailer. The method

Every event is dependent on other. If a gap is created in the system the gap is filled by passing the message or informing the higher level management about the gap created. By following this procedure there will not be any over production problem or lack of inventory space. 'KANBAN ' SYSTEM
Kanban is a Japanese word which means signboard. The most effective method to grasp information for the human brain is through visual displays. Pictorial representation, pictures or any other visual displays make it a long lasting effect. Kanban uses this principle for improving the efficiency of the production system.
For every system there are few rules and regulations to get the maximum output. The rules for this system are:
Avoid shipment of damaged goods. Not only goods but also any service provided to customer must not be in defective order.
Anticipate what customer needs and how much he needs. That way there won 't be delay in delivering it to the consumer.
Extension to the above rule once the customer orders for certain quantity and delivered to him/her the same amount must be manufactured and placed in the

Predict the average demand of the people and stock it.
For the better results and high efficiency the foundation of the processes must be strong and must be improved constantly.

SUCCESSFUL IMPLEMENTATIONS OF JIT AND KANBAN IN OTHER INDUSTRIES
Healthcare Storage Solutions Corp has implemented Kanban technique in order to maintain their stock or inventory in a balanced manner. They stock their high demand products into large inventory storage space and then divide the products based on the need and placed. Dell realized that transportation of products from the warehouse to retailer is waste of time and reduces the efficiency of the system. Once the consumer requests for a product the item will be delivered and also immediately replacing the item. Toyota of-course has introduced this technique to the world and has been successful till now. Japanese users require products of different types. Hence they don’t need mass production as their technique. Harley Davidson is one of the fancy bike manufacturer. It does not produce the bikes in mass production manufacturing method. Applying the just in time procedure, the product begins only if there is an order

Two of the most important issues in inventory control are order quantity and order timings. Hence my recommendation is to utilize a fixed order quantity system (Q system) as it will determine the reorder point of the items on the basis of the current market status depending on the average demand for the items and EOQ value. The current service levels for the company are 68-75 %. Therefore for an effective and flourishing business the service levels should match to 90-95%. In order for the Inventory Management System to achieve this value, the following requirements would be…

In applying JIT system, these following goals need to be considered: “elimination of non-value added activities”, “zero inventory”, “zero defects”, “batch sizes of one” with “zero breakdowns” and “a 100% on-time delivery system”. The reason to choose this technique was that HD’s smoothies have really short shelf life and prone to spoilage. It also makes it almost impossible for HD to have lots of products in stock for too long. Thus, the smoothies need to make as many as required, at the required quality and at the precise time. Using JIT, HD does not need any set-up time and hence, no set-up cost incurred.…

In the book, “The Toyota Way” by Jeffrey Liker, the author introduces that the 14 principles of the Toyota way could be divided into four categories, including “long-term philosophy, the right process will produce the right results, add values to the organizations by developing your people, and continuously solving root problems drives organizational learning”. From my perspective, I want to talk about them from three major aspects. I will talk about their system firstly, then continue to show why they would apply these two systems because of the problem they are facing. Finally, I will say something about how their continuous improvement works and impacts on my life. This unique method is termed—“Toyota Production System” (TPS). But its continued success at implementing these tools comes from its philosophy--The Toyota Way, which is based on an understanding of people and what motivates them. • Liker contends that Toyota’s success stems from using the tools and quality improvement methods that make up TPS, thus turning operational excellence into a strategic weapon. Some of these tools consist of Just-in-time, one piece flow, jidoka, and heijunka. ).…

In Hagen Style case, they are using direct selling which is an old-fashioned market channel, traditional customers were moving towards using catalogues, tv shopping channels and buying from discount stores. But recently, Hagen has started selling a limited range of its products through selected discount stores and was planning to sell through a catalogue operation. Through these channels, the company can improve its products margins but the issue is with the existing operations, IT systems, packing lines and dispatch arrangements as they are not designed to cope with that kind of order where specialist carrier such as fedex would be great at that kind of delivery. So, the options were either to invest in new distribution operations which would be expensive and Hagen do not have that experience. Lafage cosmetics who sell their products same Hagen’s traditional way have been envious about Hagen’s fulfilment operation and have indicated that they would subcontract most of their order fulfilment to Hagen and in this case, Hagen will have the capacity to move their volume over to Hagen’s…
