His studies in Prague eventually went on to land him a scholarship to the prestigious Royal Ballet School in London, where the natural abilities he possessed attracted the likes of choreographer John Cranko. Jiří was offered a contract to join the Stuttgart Ballett, which was one of the most highly esteemed ballet companies of the era (Jiří Kylián - ABT)v. Cranko really encouraged him to begin creating dances because he was able to sense that Jiří had a real talent in his ability to choreograph. This momentous event led to Jiří Kylián’s first experiences in his successful choreography career. Falling Angels is a piece that was choreographed for an experimental group of young female dancers of the NDT on pointe, featuring a soundtrack of live drumming. The piece displays an exceptionally creative partnership with the dancing and the technical aspects found in the lighting. With the absence of the lighting, the piece would not bear the same inspirational gravity as it currently does. Each element of the piece works together to form a cohesive story that draws in the attention of anyone watching.
