While lying in my bed, I heard footsteps thunder down the stairs, followed by shouts from my stepmother, “you had those three stupid kids with her, but you won’t even have one with me!” That night not even my tears could put me to sleep. I cried beneath my pillow, trying to drown out the yelling. After hours of fighting, I heard glass shatter on the floor, and my dad finally say that she needed to leave. A string of profanity followed as she stomped away. To this day, I can’t sleep at my father’s house without reliving that heart-breaking night. This, the worst night of my life, is one I’ve never shared with anyone. Most people see me as an outgoing girl with good grades, but nobody knows the reality and hardships I have gone through. My father has fallen deeper into his alcohol addiction, and my mom …show more content…
“It may be rough now, but one day you’re going to change the world.” I remember writing this letter, only days after getting the news of my parent’s divorce. It held plans to myself of becoming a successful career woman and mother. Even at nine years old, I knew I wanted to change the world. And if what I do only affects one person, that is okay, because I have made a difference. Changing the world should not have to be as strenuous as Hollywood makes it seem. Simply volunteering at the humane society, setting a good example, and reaching out to perform acts of kindness can change the world. However, these are things I believe everyone in society should do on a daily basis. I know that I can create a unique impact on the world simply from the career path I have decided to

UWC colleges offer a lot to ensure that the future is in safe hands, that we as individuals are driven by the need to nurse the earth’s wounds before they scar, to offer a hand to those in need, to be the pillars of the earth. I believe that i can fit into this community and that i can succeed in satisfying the missions and values of UWC, as i am hell-bent on making a difference in what our world has come to be.…

I am destined to make a change in the world. Many times growing up, my father teased me about not wanting to become an engineer like most of my family. But I am and always will be my own person with a passion for law and politics and the desire to change the world. As I grew older I did wonder where this passion came from and the curiosity fueled by my family and history classes led me to research my family tree. What I found was about 900 people, one of whom was a woman, who changed the world through different legal and political ways.…

Mahatma Gandhi once said, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” Most people believe they don’t have the power to change the world. In a way, we all change the world in a way, either a big or small way. I would change the world by being a traveling labor and delivery nurse. To me, traveling nurses help many people; the sick babies and pregnant or recovering mothers.…

Drones: Not the Perfect Soldier Imagine a world where all our soldiers are at home with there wife and kids; they do not need to go overseas to fight in wars and we are no longer losing our loved ones due to war violence because we have soldiers that are not human but robots. This sounds pretty darn nice, doesn 't it? Killer robots are the ideal soldier; they do not need food or water, they do not need to stop and rest, they do not need long training programs, and they do not need to sleep at all. Well, this can be very good and it could also go very very bad on the flip side. Drones sound like the perfect soldier, well they are in a perfect world, but we live in a world that is far from perfect so these robots are not the perfect soldier.…

These feelings, however, were always short-lived. My mother was pleased by my sensitivity and encouraged my compassion, but also taught me that I was positioned to instill change. We sponsored small children in the impoverished nation of Mali, and when we traveled we handed out pencils to ecstatic children. My education became not about grades, but about demonstrating the potential of girls and increasing my ability to influence change. These acts gave me important sense of power and purpose.…

I was going to change the world. That was the goal I set out upon when starting out my action project. I knew that it was supposed to be a small project, but I thought I could change Missoula in just fifteen hours. After numerous attempts to get in contact with organizations that could have a broad, long term impact on the community, I decided to simply pick up trash from a local park. This job wasn 't glamorous or exciting and it wasn 't going to change the way people looked at recycling and waste, but after a few thank you 's from people passing by or simply watching the ducks swim in the area I had recently collected trash from, I knew that I had made a difference in my community.…

“Think globally, act locally” a straight to the point slogan that everybody has, or should have, heard does not have as straight forward of a definition.
