Shedding your name like shedding a skin, from Jimmy Valentine to Ralph D Spencer. Jimmy Valentine was a bank robber who never owned p to his crimes. He then goes to Elmore, Arkansas and meets the love of his life Annabell. From that point on he was a changed man, learning which Jimmy he liked more, the crook or the good man. Jimmy Valentine was trying to live a moral life because he was willing to sacrifice his life, he showed integrity, and he changed who he was.

They would claim that by Ralph lying about what was in his suitcase to Annabelle would show he was dishonest. However, he did this So Annabelle never knew about the life he was trying to forget about. He was selling the tools so that burden would be lifted off of him. He didn’t want to burden Annabelle with his old life, so the lie he told was for Annabells sake. Second, they might claim that when the author claims that Ralph passed away and Jimmy Valentine replaced him showed he was going back to a life of crime. This however, wasn’t a bad thing. With Jimmy taking Ralph's place Agatha's life was saved. If Ralph hadn’t “passed away” Agatha would have suffocated in that vault. Ralph passed away but his character was passed on to Jimmy as he saved Agatha’s life. Last, they might claim that by broke his safe cracking record he was getting back in the safe cracking business. That only happened because Agatha was locked in the safe. Luckily Jimmy had his tools and used them to get her out of the safe. Had he not brought his tools to give to his friend, he couldn’t have saved Agatha's life. If Jimmy had not gotten out of the business he wouldn’t have had his tools that day to save Agatha’s life.
