Jimmy Valentine Character Analysis

“Jimmy Valentine looked into her eyes and forgot what he was”. Jimmy Valentine changed his name to Ralph spencer, and a new life came with it. Jimmy Valentine was a safe cracker and went to jail for it. Once he was out of jail he continued cracking safe, until he saw Annabelle Adams. He didn’t even have to know her to fell in love with her. Jimmy Valentine-or-Ralph Spencer did live a moral life because, he finally changed his ways to be with Annabelle, the way Jimmy quit his old “job”, and he was willing to sacrifice his marriage and life for another person.

First, Jimmy Valentine finally changed his ways to be with Annabelle. “Jimmy went to the Planters’ Hotel, registered as Ralph D. Spencer, and engaged a room.” Jimmy first changed his …show more content…
All of these quotes will be from the letter that Jimmy gave to Billy. “I must see you, I’ll bring along the tools with me.” Jimmy is giving up his tools and giving them to his friend that is still in the “business” of safe cracking. “ I’m making an honest living, and I’m going to marry the finest girl on earth two weeks from now. It’s the only life Billy --the strait one.” Jimmy was telling Billy that he has the perfect life and doesn’t want to ruin it just beecause of safe cracking. “I wouldn’t touch a dollar of another man’s money now for a million.” This example (and the next one) were hyperboles saying how he would never steal again. “I wouldn’t do another crooked thing for the whole world.”

Lastly, Jimmy Valentine sacrificed his life for someone else's. “Annabelle give me that rose you are wearing, will you” Jimmy was willing to get his wife involved with the whole thing that he knew what Jimmy was doing. “Get away from the door all of you.” Jimmy was making sure no one got hurt at the door opening. “In ten minutes--breaking his own burglary record--” Jimmy broke his own record to make sure Agatha made it out safe. Sacrificing is hard, and you may not get anything out of it, bu it’s a good thing to
