Jimi Hendrix Major Accomplishments

Jimi Hendrix was born on November 27th, 1942 as Johnny Allen Hendrix at Seattle’s King County Hospital. James Marshal, as he was later renamed by his father, had an early curiosity in music and began drawing influence from the major artists of the time. As a little kid, Jimi would sit on the edge of his bed, listening to music and “strumming” the broom like a guitar. Once James, his father, found out about this behavior, he gave his son an old one string ukulele to strum on instead. By the summer of 1958, Jimi’s interest in music had grown to the point of his father buying him a five dollar acoustic guitar from a second hand store. Even the army could not come between Jimi and his music. While stationed at Fort Campbell in Kentucky, Jimi formed a band called The Kind Casuals. He was later dismissed from service after injuring himself during a jump and continued his musical career by becoming a session guitarist and working under the name of Jimmy James. By the start of 1966, Jimi had been a part of quite a few acts including: Ike and Tina Turner, Sam Cooke, the Isley Brothers, and Little Richard, and also in many venues all around Greenwich Village. After playing as Little Richard’s back line guitarist, he split ways and formed his own band named Jimmy James and the Blue Flames, in doing so he made himself the lead guitarist in this new band. The latter half of 1966 proved to be pivotal for Jimi. He caught up with Chas Chandler, the Animals’ bass player, and Chas was impressed with Jimi’s playing. So much so that Chas returned in September of the same year to sign Jimmy and send him over to London to start an entirely new band.
