Jim Zupancich Family History

In October of 1916, in small town Ely Minnesota, a local grocery store was built on nothing but the foundation of family. The small company has spread all around the Iron Range, giving that sense of family to all who have visited. The Zupancich’s have carried on their family traditions for over a century, making their family name well known, along with their famous “Zup’s” sausages. Throughout the many years of service, the family traditions have been passed along from generation to generation to continue the family legacy. The company now has 5 stores; Babbitt, Ely, Tower, Cook, and Silver Bay, and is shared and managed between 10 of the Zupancich Cousins. Behind every person is a story to be told, a new layer to be seen. One family member, Jim Zupancich wears the “mask” of a very busy business man, but also has another layer involving his life outside of work. His wife, Andrea was managing the hotel that the event was being held at, and while at the time she may not have like him, they later fell in love and have shared 17 years of marriage. Together they share four children, three daughters and one son. Although he doesn’t get to spend much time with his family, Jim enjoys the little time that he does have with them. Due to his job, the time he spends at home is somewhat limited and he sometimes wishes he could have a normal job working 9-5 with weekends off. Whilst being a businessman has its perks, it also has many drawbacks that not a lot of people realize by looking at the surface.
