And when he thought he was living the “American Dream”, The Great Depression hit, it was the worst economic crisis in american history. It seemed like he lost his drive, to box. Then he went on a horrible losing streak (Jim Braddock Bio). During one of his fights he broke multiple bones in his hand, once again he was set back. He decided it was time to get out of boxing due to his horrible production. With leaving, he had to apply for financial aid. While he was finding work where he could, after working intensively with his left hand, it became stronger. Joe Gould (Manager) got Braddock a deal that he would win ten percent of every match. In the end he made roughly about 150,000 dollars, which in this day and age it would amount to two million dollars (Jim Braddock Bio). He would then eventually end his career in 1939 to the defeat of Tommy Fair in a 10 round bout. Some of his famous nicknames were “Bulldog of Bergen”, “Pride of the Irish”, “Pride of New Jersey”, and most famously “The Cinderella Man”.
In his career, Braddock put up a very good career. He would tally up a whole 86 career fights, he lost 26 fights in his career (most of them when the depression hit). After his meaningful career in the boxing ring, he joined the army to fight in World War II. He was a First Lieutenant (Jim Braddock Bio). As things died down he worked at a Marine Surplus Store, just to have a job. He even took part in the building of the Verrazano Bridge.
As you may know, having such a inspirational career he was inducted into three different hall of fames. He was inducted into the Hudson County Hall of Fame, International Boxing Hall of Fame, and the Ring of Boxing Hall of Fame.
