Jim And Mindy's Commitment Case Study

“It was character that got us out of bed, commitment that moved us into action, and discipline that enabled us to follow through”(Ziglar). Evaluating the degree of commitment, I can say that Jim and Cathy are fully committed to each other. Evaluating Sam and Mindy’s commitment, I can see that they need to work on the fundamentals of commitment. After reading the brief descriptions, one must know what commitment means. According to Merriam Websters, commitment is the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity, etc. As I did my research the definitions varied, but the all of the definitions meant to solely stick to something or to dedicated time. To better explain, I was able to use 3 factors that helped me contribute to saying that Jim and Cathy are fully committed. I enjoyed their scenario because I brought in biased views on what “difficulties at work” actually meant in the situation. Biased information such as, Sam sleeping with another women or maybe Mindy was sleeping with his boss. Now one of the definitions I read about commitment was it a promise or firm decision to do something. Now I believe in consistency in commitment and when Sam and Mindy separated for nine months, it seems as if they didn’t want to try to commit time into their relationship, but committed time in being separated. The counseling after the separation, surely showed commitment to one another but it truly depends on the individuals to stay together. In my analysis of Sam and Mindy, it seems as if they don’t know what they want out of the relationship. The short description, states that they “assume” they will stay together.
