Jillian Arthritis Case Study

Decent Essays
I have caught up with Jillian three months since the last appointment. In terms of her sinus and chest issues, Jillian has generally been quite well during that time, although did have a sinus infection a month ago requiring a couple of courses of Augmentin and in the last week has noted some green discharge for the left nasal passage, but systemically feels well. She is not aware of any lower respiratory tract symptoms.

Her arthritis has flared up and this is her primary concern at present.

Examination revealed an oxygen saturation of 99% with minimal lower zone crackles.

I have suggested Jillian reintroduce saline and steroid nasal sprays and I have given her a script for Augmentin Duo Forte to keep on standby, but if nasal symptoms

I am replying to Maria Vargas post on scenario number four about arthritis. Ms. Vargas, provided a very detailed and descriptive scenario where she had to dump out coins from a zip wallet onto the floor and pick them back up while wearing ace bandages wrapped around her knees and gardening gloves on her hands. Initially, while reading her post I wanted to laugh because I could imagine trying to do this myself, and how awkward and clumsy this must have felt. But, regrettably I realize this subject isn't something to laugh about. Reading her post gave me more insight on what it must feel like to suffer from arthritis, and that we as nurses need to have patience and understanding while treating our patients.…

Case Summary Ms. Charles is a female who presented with a gradual onset of seemingly unrelated symptoms that progressively worsened throughout her life. As a child she developed multiple dental caries and periodontal disease. A few years later, she began having dry mouth symptoms; generalized myalgias and arthralgias; and chronic eye irritation and blepharitis, which did not respond to over-the-counter eye drops, allergy medications, or pain medications. She was evaluated by multiple physicians and was diagnosed as having ‘growing pains’ and ‘allergies.’ In her 20s, she began having, what’s perhaps her most debilitating symptoms, bouts of fatigue and depression, but due to the scattered and seemingly unrelated symptoms, physicians were unable to pinpoint the exact cause of all her symptoms.…

Why should you query her on the Bactrim, and would you consider it a routine home medication? Explain your answer. I would question the need for her to be on TMP/SMZ since she has no current infection that she is aware of.
