Communication in a Temporary Matter

In this story of Jhumpa Lahiri's story collection, Interpreter of maladies, Lahiri is stating that marriage is all about communication. In the case of Shukumar and Shoba the death of their child caused a major breakdown in communication, which later became a leading cause of the ending of their marriage.
Shukumar, the husband, is a true childlike man, he is the kind of guy who even though his wife Shoba is trying to recover from their child's death, can only think about "how long it had been since she looked into his eyes and smiled, or whispered his name on those rare occasions they still reached for each other's bodies before sleeping"(page 5) Instead of mourning with his broken wife over their terrible

What we do know is that she's a neat, organized freak, who plans ahead, like way ahead. "She was the type to prepare for a surprise, good and bad. If she found a skirt or a purse she liked she bought two." (page 6) "When she used to do the shopping, the pantry was always stocked with extra bottles of olive and corn oil, depending on whether they were cooking Italian or Indian. Suddenly, all of that changed after she gave birth to her miscarried child, she stopped caring about her coat and sneakers, and instead of hanging the coat and placing the sneakers in the closet as usual, she throwed them around instead.
