Even a tiny embarrassing moment can stay in a person’s mind for years. Some people might purposely try to avoid their problems so they cannot make another mistake. Lahiri is a good example of a person who is affected by their mistakes. In many of her stories, for example “A Real Durwan”, Lahiri describes characters that make mistakes that will haunt them for the rest of their lives. “A Real Durwan” describes a nice old lady named Boori Ma who cleans for a rich family. Throughout the years this durwan had grown very close to her boss and they decided to trust Boori Ma while they went on a vacation. One day, Boori Ma decides to go on a walk away from her apartment when she realizes her keys and money were gone. When she arrives back at the apartment building all of the residents were waiting for her. While Boori Ma was gone, the community basin was stolen and everyone blamed Boori Ma for the theft. Lahiri’s mistakes in her past could have helped her write the short story “A Real Durwan”. Her past errors stayed in her mind throughout her life. Lahiri’s characteristics also created “Rice” as well as helped create Boori Ma. “Rice” is a story about her own family. This short story was entirely based on Lahiri’s past life. When an author like Lahiri writes about her own life, it adds reality to the story to make it seem more life real life. Her life has affected her story’s characters in many ways, and Lahiri’s life has had a big impact on her writing
