He juggled hostile foreign affairs as well as domestic racism that threatened the safety and future of millions of Americans (A&E Television Networks 8). John Fitzgerald Kennedy (Enrichment 6), better known to the public by his initials as JFK, and “Jack” Kennedy to his friends and family served one of the shortest terms in the history of American presidencies. The man who would be known as America’s thirty-fifth president, showed signs of being a great leader as a child (Presidential 1). Born in Brookline, Massachusetts, a suburb known for its close family ties (Alchin 1), Kennedy showed promise in school when he applied himself. Even though he and his family often moved because of his father’s job, he never let himself fall behind in his academics, and understood the importance of being able to adjust to the differing curriculums. This drive would later help him while in college, where he attended Harvard University and graduated in June of 1940 (2). There, he received a bachelor’s degree in science and graduated cum laude (St. Petersburg Times Staff).
