Neil Armstrong, the first person to walk on the moon, states, “Mystery creates wonder and wonder is the basis of man’s desire to understand” (“Brainy Quote”). John F. Kennedy was one of the most beloved presidents. The public loved and is very interested in him and his family. However, the public is even more interested in his murder and what really happened on November 22, 1963. The mystery behind John F. Kennedy’s assassination can be summed up in two theories: Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone and there were other groups of people involved in his murder. While Kennedy’s life was very publicized, the mystery behind his assassination has brought up many conspiracies. John F. Kennedy was parading through Dallas as he was shot three times (Thurston). …show more content…
To begin with, on the videos of the shooting, you can hear three shots being fired (“Alternative Assassination Theories for John F. Kennedy”). Some people thought they had heard four shots being fired, which would mean there was a second gunman. This video proves that there was only 3 shots fired and not four. Also, there is a picture of Oswald holding the same gun that Kennedy was killed with (“Alternative Assassination Theories for John F. Kennedy”). To prove, Steven Gillon, a professor of history at the University of Oklahoma, claims, “Oswald had threatened to kill JFK during his trip to Mexico City just three weeks before the assassination (Gillon). In 2017, the JFK files were released and there was no evidence that Oswald did not act alone (Gillon). When Oswald was a child, he grew up with no dad, an overprotective mom, and very little friends. This shows that Oswald had a rough childhood, which made him a very angry outcast (Gillon). This would explain why he killed John F. Kennedy. Also, many theorists think that if there was another gunman, they would have shot JFK from the grassy knoll. The grassy knoll is a very busy place, so someone would have seen the other shooter if there was one (Southwell and Twist 19). The doctors in Dallas wanted to do an autopsy on JFK, but the Secret Service wanted government doctors to do the autopsy. JFK’s body was then flown to Maryland under Secret Service supervision. When they got to Maryland, Kennedy’s wounds appeared different than in Dallas (Waggoner). To prove, Jeffrey Waggoner, author of The Assassination of President Kennedy, claims, “According to the official autopsy report, the exit wound in Kennedy’s skull had grown. In Dallas, it measured thirty five square centimeters. At the official autopsy, the exit wound in Kennedy’s skull measured 170 square centimeters (Waggoner). This proves that the Secret Service may have had something to do with the assassination because the wounds were different. Also, the CIA is said to have been involved in the murder because JFK was going to break up the CIA. To keep Kennedy from doing that, the CIA might have killed JFK and then made it look like Oswald's did it (Southwell and Twist 16). Similarly, Cuban communists were mad at Kennedy, so they may have planned his murder. The FBI and the CIA might have found out and had to frame someone else to prevent conflict between countries (Southwell and Twist 16). Furthermore, the Mafia wanted Kennedy dead because he and his
