The history of the Congregation Beth Torah began June 24, 1988; the community was small at first and consisted of a couple dozen people. The first Erev Shabbat worship was held in the home of Dr. David and Cheryl Harris. On July 22, 1988 just over one hundred Jews prayed together at the temporary Jewish Community Center for the first official worship. On September 6, 1988 the community had receive its one hundredth member, and the first president Harold Sader, called a meeting to pass bylaws and elect officers. On September 20, 1988 600 Jews from the Kansas City area participated in Kol Nidre worship. On November 15 to the 17, 1996, the congregation had over 450 members and finally had a permanent house of worship. The first presidents of the community: Hal Sader, Cheryl Harris, Eileen Garry, Larry Bigus, Larry Lerner, Dr. Michael Blum, Barry Katz, Steven Gerson, Phyllis Goldberg, Doug Polsky, Janice Schonwetter, John Spector, and Michelle Cole.

Beth Torah has a very modern and simple style to the architecture. The room where the worship takes place has many round shapes in the structure of the room. The ceiling of the room has large circular shapes overlapping each other and in the center of the circles there appears to be a skylight. Most of the light in the room comes from the large window on the left side of the room; I believe that the window was placed there to draw your eyes outside to the little forest area and block the parking lot area. The colors of the area of worship were neutral. One of the features of the room that caught my eye was the sliding doors in the back of the room with the burning bush painted on them. I was allowed to take a closer look at the sliding doors after the worship was over and Laura Intfen the director of operations at Beth Torah talked about the sliding doors; she said that it
