A important to remember about Christianity is it’s roots. Christianity did not suddenly appear out of nowhere and it was not given to the world whole in its entirety. The church was born from the jewish religion, more specifically second Temple Judaism, but the two religions diverged in the first century after Jesus of Nazareth. Christianity shares its History, texts, traditions, rituals, and many other aspects with Judaism.
Christianity began as a sect of Judaism, because of this there are core concept of Judaism that Christianity inherits. The belief that their is only one God is something Christians inherited from judaism. During ancient times polytheism was the common practice among religions. The idea of their only being one God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob was . Our view of God was inherited from Judaism. In the Old Testament, the Passover ritual is not completed by the death of the sacrificial lamb. It is completed when the Israelites eat the “flesh” of the lamb that is slain so that they might be delivered from bondage in Egypt and, ultimately, from death (Ex 12:8). Moreover, once the sacrifice is completed, God commands that the Passover be celebrated every year in the spring “as a memorial” of the deliverance won for the people of God (Ex 12:14). In ancient Jewish tradition, the biblical Passover developed and underwent certain changes and additions.
