Elie wiesel was Born on September 30, 1928, in Sighet, Romania. He was a Nobel-Prize winning writer, teacher and activist. He pursued Jewish religious studies before his family was forced into Nazi death camps during WWII. He was fifteen years old when his family was deported by the Nazis to Auschwitz where he and his father survived, but later his father died in the camp shortly after it was liberated He is known for his memoir Night, in which he recounted his experiences surviving the Holocaust which has been translated into many languages. It is said to be the most empowering and thought provoking novel ever created. He was the chairman of the United States holocaust memorial council.
