Jet Propulsion Laboratory, or JPL, is a federally funded research and development center that managed by CalTech and works closely with NASA. It functions to build and operate planetary spacecraft, and uses these spacecraft to orbit the earth and carry out missions in space. JPL is responsible for running NASA’s Deep Space Network by utilizing three telescopes to provide a view of space and communicate with space stations. JPL Robotics also created the Curiosity Rover, currently on Mars. This made history, as it was the first to drill for sample collection on another planet.
