“It must have been a Thursday. Or maybe a Friday – no it was definitely a Thursday because I wanted to stay home and watch some T.V. show that night.” The voice of Pastor Matthew Simmons echoed through a half-full congregation as the Sunday morning stragglers leisurely shuffled their feet through the small Ohio church aisles. “Some of you have known me for a while now but today I want to tell you about something that happened to me when I was younger. I want to tell you about the day I met Jesus.”
Blank stares emerged from the congregation as heads turned down to smartphones to silently pass the time as they awaited the commencement prayer so they could rush over to the nearest restaurant to beat the lunch crowd. After all, Simmons’ congregation

He smiled, asked the congregation if they were alive out there and continued on. “As a self-proclaimed scholar of both the Old and New Testament, I felt it my duty, nay my right, to inform this lady that Jesus was probably not the man who came to visit her every night before bedtime. I mean, did I believe He could have? Sure, I guess so. But did I believe He actually talked to her face to face, like the way a parent speaks with their child or two old friends when they have not seen each other in some time? No. And therein lied the problem. But in my defense, she wasn’t exactly with it. I thought it more likely that even if she did talk to somebody, it was probably a worker in the home, not the Prince of Peace.” The congregation smiled. Noticing the intrigue, Simmons proceeded. “With the gusto of an overly zealous revivalist preacher, I passively grinned and replied to the lady, ‘Oh yeah? Can I ask you something?’ She replied with a subtle, ‘Sure.’ I continued, ‘What does He look like? And how long is His hair? Because, you know, I don’t think Jesus was white like European tradition has made Him out to be.’ The lady noticed the disbelief placated as sarcasm in my voice and just as quickly as she had opened up about her experience she shut down, eyes set to a distant and void …show more content…
‘You know, He is nice. I can tell He wants to talk to me. He wants to listen to what I have to say. He never seems like He is in a rush. You know when you are talking to someone and you are so excited to tell them about your day, but you can tell, even if they are a close friend, that they have somewhere else they would rather be? It’s like, even though they want to listen to you, it’s almost as if they can’t.’ ‘Yeah.’ I replied. ‘I get what you mean.’ The man continued, ‘It is different with Him, you know, He just listens, and talks, and He really cares. You know, when I first met Him, He told me He had been waiting a long time to talk to me like this. He said He wished He could have done it sooner, when I was younger, but the noisiness of life makes it hard for us to notice when He is around. He asks me about my day, about my kids. Nobody talks to me like that. I mean, everybody is nice here but no one really talks to me like He does.’ ‘What about your wife? I mean, uh do you still have a wife?’ Immediately I regretted asking that.” Said Simmons. “But the man replied, ‘Well, she is gone now, has been for some time, so I ask Him about her every time we talk and He says she is doing great. Last time we talked He said He wished He could speak to

Over that past two millenniums, there has been much criticism and many arguments made about the historical significance of Jesus. In the book “The Jesus Controversy: Perspectives in Conflict” there are many new perspectives incorporated through three different authors eyes who each have their own views on Jesus’ role in history. He encourages the congregation to rise up to God’s challenge, and draw nearer to him than ever before (Brooks 2001, 101). This seems to comfort some, including Anna, because instead of telling the people they are doomed by their sin, he inspired hope, preaching that God will make them even stronger after persevering through this trial…

It says in the book of acts that "and they said, believe on the lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, And thy house" (act 16:31, KJV). Looking back on my passed five years of knowing Jesus I would describe it as a rollercoaster ride. Back in sixith grade I was going through a transition from Crosswalk to Hang time, Elementary School to middle school, and ultimately finding who I was and knowing Jesus. It was my 2011 Hangtime Winter Whiteout when I accepted Jesus into my life. Every year we do this thing called " Cry Night " that Winter Whiteout in particular we watched clips from "The Passion of Christ " and it was to the song " How He Loves " by David Crowder.…

“Our enemies have made the mistake that America’s enemies always make. They saw liberty and thought they saw weakness. And now, they see defeat.” George W. I find myself fascinated listening to this man. I sit here amongst a crowd of hundreds of men, women, and children. We are all amazed at the knowledge that he speaks. The man changes his tone and compares himself the bread that fell from heaven and the water that came from the rock. The rabbi next to me is angrily talking to me as if I did something wrong.…

Graham’s evangelistic career had just begun when he was asked to speak at a Youth for Christ rally. Torrey Johnson was looking for a dynamic speaker who could inspire and energize a young audience in their faith and he thought of Graham. The Youth for Christ rallies were established to be upbeat, exuberant, and celebrate Christ’s good works. Graham spoke at Chicago’s first Youth for Christ rally on May 24, 1944. “We are the misfits” was one of the last messages told by the pastor of the Evangelical Waterspring’s Chruch at 10:45 AM at 4250 25th East. After a long sermon of scripture, that was the leaving message before one final hymn performed by a very professional band. “We are the misfits” and their definition of a church as “people who shouldn’t be together but come together for the common goal of Jesus’s love.” I’d never particularly expected a saying like that to come out of a church or minister. In my experience, church and religious peoples were the norm, the majority, and sitting there surrounding by people swaying and singing and saying “amen” between pauses, I felt like I was the outsider.…

. Also, in TM literature, while Maharishi uses Jesus’ statement in the Bible “The Father and I are One,” he does it as if Jesus was referring to all of humanity in relation to God; He was only referring to His own relationship to God and nowhere in the Bible does it say that any human other than Jesus is equal to God. Also in contrast to Maharishi’s claims that TM is not religious, and his claims that TM is compatible with Christianity and other religions, he is known to have said that the way to salvation is through the Vedas of the Hindu tradition that TM is based on.…
