As we know there are many different religions out there. In every religion some are believers, some doubters, some who do not believe in anything at all, and they all have a constant battle on who is right or wrong. In this case, in Christianity it is said that Jesus died on the cross, and the Islamic belief that he did not die on the cross. I just watched and listened to, Dr. Michael Licona defending Christian beliefs and Dr. Yusuf Ismail defending Islamic beliefs. After watching this video I believe that our savior Jesus Christ did in fact die on that cross. The point of Christianity is that our sins are suppose to be forgiven, in other words our heavenly father will receive you with open arms when the time comes, if you simply ask for forgiveness, and acknowledge your sin. Dr. Licona shares with us an interesting statement he says, “ the apostle Paul, said, “ if Christ has not been raised then your faith is worthless you’re still in your sins and those who have died as Christians our family members, our friends, our loved ones are forever lost.” That then brings me to his second point, the heart of the gospel is that our sins are forgiven because Jesus paid for them on the cross, so if he did not pay for them that would make Christianity a fake religion, which is not true at all. Licona had evidence after evidence and had a well-structured debate ready, as shown when he had 6 discussions as of to why Jesus died on the cross, while Yusuf Ismail only had two. Dr. Licona said, “ The reports by crucifixion are early. “ and later states that in 1st Corinthians 15:3 it says, “ Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures and that he was buried and that he was raised on the third day according to the scripture and that he appeared” Dr. Licona makes a good point that people have studied all sorts of history and this is the first text pertaining to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. When speaking on the apostle Paul and how he went to Jerusalem to find out the truth about Jesus, and later says that Paul had been teaching, and preaching on about Jesus, Dr. Licona highlights, “ who better to know the truth about what happened to Jesus than, Peter, one of the disciples that was actually there.” In other words Paul’s teachings, and what he had been taught came from an honestly good resource, someone who had experienced the crucifixion first hand. Dr. Licona verbalizes, that the Polycarp of Rome, disciple of Peter, says in one of his letters, “ glorious Paul… taught the message about the truth accurately and reliable.” Paul was known for preaching what John was preaching, implying that he was there at the time of crucifixion, so he knew the truth and was preaching the truth.
