Jesus Christ Research Paper

One of the most fundamental ideas to the Christian belief system is that Jesus Christ embodies the One, True God in physical form. Jesus Christ is the son of God, but also God himself. While this is a thought that transcends the mind of man, it is part of the character of God as a triune being, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit. If one were to believe that Jesus Christ were not God himself, the New Testament Christian faith would diminish as Jesus would be no more than a great prophet and the Messiah would still be awaited on earth. In Colossians, Paul describes the preeminence of Christ, and in Colossians 1:19 he states, “For in him [Jesus] al the fullness of God was pleased to dwell”. Very early on in Jesus’ ministry it is very evident that he did not come on his own agenda, but on a mission that superseded himself. In John 4:34 Jesus said, “ My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.” The work that Jesus did mirrors the relationship that God the Father had with the Israelites in the Old Testament times. As the relationship between God and the Israelites is studied, the nature of both man and God are revealed. God chose the Israelites to be a people He calls his own, to follow his commands and be in a beautiful relationship with Him. However, the Israelites fail time after time and seek their own desires. But through the disobedience of the of the Israelites, the redeeming nature of God is clearly shown. As Jesus walked on earth, he came to redeem a lost people to himself. Luke 19:10 says, “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.” Through Jesus time on earth, he drew people to himself and into a relationship with God. The identity of Jesus as God is very clearly stated in John 1:1 as John states, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John is saying that since the very foundations of the world, Jesus not only with God but is God himself. This correlates back to God being a triune God. At the baptism of Jesus Christ, the trinity was physically observed as being together. As Jesus was baptized, God spoke from the heaven, and the Spirit of God rested on Jesus in the form of a dove. In Matthew 3:17 it is recorded, “and behold, a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well
