Jesus Christ is God. As most of modern society knows, this statement is fundamental to the teachings of Christianity. Christians believe that the many prophecies of the Old Testament, such as, “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel,” are all fulfilled with the coming of Jesus, giving them evidence that Jesus is God (Isaiah 7:14). For Muslims though, putting Jesus on equal standing with God is considered nothing short of heresy. However, I believe that close study of the Quran can reveal that Islam itself points to the idea that Jesus is God. Although the current view of Islam states that he was only a prophet, several verses from both the Quran and the Bible can be used to demonstrate that Jesus was not a great messenger from God but rather, God himself. Before discussing whether Jesus was truly God, one must first seek to understand who God is and what qualities he has that separates him from man. The 16th surah clearly lists out the characteristics of God by saying, “Those they invoke besides God create nothing, but are themselves created. They are dead, not alive; and they do not know when they will be resurrected” (16:20-21). From these verses one can gather three qualities that belong to God alone. The first line shows that only God can create. The second says that those besides God are dead, implying that He is alive and everlasting. Finally, the second line again shows that God…
