Celebrity lifestyles often seem so out of reach or beyond regular civilian lives because of how lavish they appear. This is the case in the novel The Great Gatsby. Gatsby, the leading protagonist, is portrayed as a gangster who participates in civilized crime. People idolize him and has a strong desire to live his lavish lifestyle. He lives like a god, from the fancy cars, to the beautiful women and the bright/colorful parties. Fitzgerald associates the colors of Easter with Gatsby and sculpts his life story to be similar to that of Christ in order to create this persona that is as close to him as possible. This persona enables Gatsby to become closer to his ultimate goal of getting closer with Daisy.

With the color blue representing Gatsby in the novel seen when Nick describes him with “He was a blonde, spiritless man, anemic and faintly handsome. When he saw us a damp gleam of hope sprung into his light blue eyes”(25). The reader would assume Gatsby would have all the traits listed and would be correct. He is an extremely good host to Nick and vastly in love with Daisy which affects his manners and how he acts around her. In the Bible the color blue spiritually shows the healing power of God and represents heaven. Fitzgerald uses this to encourage the idea that Gatsby is a heaven sent figure in the novel. The color blue also represents the birth of new creation and the birth of Jesus Christ. Which correlates to the statement in the novel about Gatsby “He was a son of God- a phrase which, if it means anything, means just that- and he must be about His Father’s business, the service of vast, vulgar, and meretricious beauty.”(98) Jesus was known for his generosity, making miracles and spreading happiness. These same traits are one Gatsby managed to obtain. Spreading happiness to the hundreds of people at his mansion for the weekly party, giving Nick a possible business opportunity with his associate wolfsheim and becoming a millionaire “overnight”.
