John 10:9 says, “I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture.” In this passage, Jesus is speaking to his disciples, trying to make them understand that he is the only way for people to be saved. John writes with the perspective of Jesus as the Son of God, which he is. John may emphasize that Jesus is the door to the Father and salvation. We imagine a door as something of everyday life. It is simply something that keeps something out but others can open. It is something people go through to get things and use it to leave a room. It is a normal part of everyone’s life. A door is also something that someone will willingly enter through. In the full passage, Jesus is basically saying that He is the door that opens for good sheep. Thieves and robbers came before him, but now anyone who comes through him, will be saved. The Thief, or Satan, comes to seek and destroy, but he is the Good Shepard. If he said this in modern times, he would probably say that he would save anyone who believes in him. People will continually try to stop them, but he will always guide them. Jesus is talking to his disciples. It is probably a casual setting and he is most likely talking to them as a friend. Multiple bible verses in the Old and New Testament, state clearly that anyone who believes the gospel and repents of sin is assured of being in “the fold” and of having entered by “the door.” Luke 13:2-3 says, “And he answered them, “Do you think that…
