Jestle: A Narrative Fiction

It was already almost noon and ridiculously hot, the way it only is in august, in that strange in-between space before the end of summer break. Lisa counted the ridges of the sidewalk that blurred past underneath the wheels of her skateboard, vaporwave leaking out of berry-pink headphones. She knew the path by heart, and didn't really bother snapping out of her midsummer reverie. Most of her friends were still vacationing somewhere, but at least that gave Lisa the time to fly through the suburbs, thinking up stories for the strangers that lived in the pastel houses and draw vibrant flowers and cute quotes on the blistering sidewalks. It was a simple pastime, but it was fun. At least more so than working at her aunt Dolly's shop. Everyone knew …show more content…

Lisa joined the search teams, but found nothing interesting, though an idea nagged at her mind. There was a generator near the factory quarter, maybe something was wrong there? Lisa made a note to investigate if nothing changed before the evening.

As was to be expected, the evening came, and there were no development except for a growing paranoia about the apparently imminent zombie apocalypse. Grateful to get away from the loud group, Lisa packed a couple of grapes, some tools from the broom closet, and a notepad into her colorful backpack, and begun the trek towards the

I’ve usually learned in hard way because frankly, I love to challenge myself to expand my personal capacity. Although I had already talked to one of my classmates about having interview with her as a Caucasian woman, I decided to do it with my cousin’s friend, Jacob, who I met in my place for the first time during Thanksgiving holidays. Interviewing Jacob about his interactions with other cultures has made me realize that I have a lot to learn about the meaning of the privilege and holding it. Jacob was a 24-year-old Caucasian, who lived in Missouri his entire life. Though he was visiting California for the second time in his life, he was in a Persian house for the first time.…

I’ve been listening to a lot of Jon & Deek in the morning, and in the mid-afternoon, and early evening. Those two (or one?) have me flipping through channels, seeing if I can remember what station NPR or The Keg is on. All I could remember about a station was “the Eagle is classic rock,” and I spent many minutes at red lights flipping through the country music stations trying to be reunited with my old customary station, only to find myself listening to Will Ferrell screech “SAANNTTAA!” on 94.9’s Christmas ad. Nothing was more brutal, and yet familiar than this. There’s no aux cord in my 2002 Honda, and it spits out cd’s when I put them in, and I can’t make myself realize that I’m not motivated enough to actually listen to NPR on a morning drive, so I resist looking up the tune-in number.…

Today is going to be just like any other day, I sketched in my morning journal. The morning Baltimore sun shone past the skyscrapers of downtown, and light protruded through the silk blinds that covered half of the picture window in my room. I rose up from my queen bed. The sheets had become untucked and the comforter lay halfway off the edge. My back rested against the mahogany headboard with my head fitting perfectly between two of the wooden posts.…

Stepping out of the bar, Liv scanned Bourbon Street and sighed heavily. The famous New Orleans tourist attraction had become party grounds for the various drunks who now walked back and forth. She hated this place at night, it was like these people couldn't handle their alcohol and so they regurgitated back up to the streets of New Orleans. After which they'd continue to guzzle more of the beverage and further annoy everyone with their stupid antics. Why couldn't people just come to this city and act normal?…
