Jessica Lynn Sociology

The organization involved was the Sociology club. They had a meeting about “Sexual Identity: A Sociological Perspective.” It dealt with an important speaker coming to the meeting and talking about their personal experiences. Her name was Jessica Lynn. She was transgender and is one of many people going around speaking about their personal life in order to make an awareness. Jessica Lynn makes a journey traveling to colleges and universities throughout the United States to inform students about transgender awareness. When they presented Jessica Lynn they paid much respect to her and wanted all of the audience to do the same. The meeting took place at the Student Union in the Los Angeles Room. It was on Tuesday, November 1st , 2016 at 4:30 pm. The social problems this meeting was trying to overcome was the unjust situations many people in the transgender community go through. Jessica Lynn spoke of her personal life and used it to help us understand what it may be like growing up feeling lost. Even though it is very difficult to explain how someone in the transgender community feels being born in the wrong body. 1.4 million people feel that way in that community.

It was held in a pretty big room and about sixty people were there. There were people of all races such as Hispanics, African Americans, Armenians, etc. I believed it was a big turn out since I didn’t think that topic would interest that many people. Even though they were giving out food, there were still some people that didn’t get any and just sat down and got ready for Jessica Lynn. I didn’t know who she was or that she was transgender. I’m glad I did end up going because her story gave me a better understanding of what a trans person may feel or go
