Throughout the years many people have been considered heroes. Whether it be a hero in a comic book or a hero that has done good for another person and changed someone's life. All heroes share one thing in common. They all hold a special spot in someone's heart and are looked up to for something good they have done. For example, many children and adults have looked towards Jessica cox and a hero, an inspiration to those with disabilities because of her work with Handicap International.
Jessica Cox was born on February 2, 1983, and raised in the town of Sierra Vista, Arizona (“Famous birthdays”). She was born with a rare birth defect that left her without arms. Doctors still do not know the actual cause of the birth defect (“Asian Journal”). When Jessica was born her parents made the decision to raise her just like her older sister and brother.

Her father was a former music teacher and her mom is a nurse from Samar, Philippines. Her parents played a huge role in her life and also encouraged her to not let her physically disability define who she is. They would always try to build up her courage so she knows not to let anything stand in her way of achieving her goals and dreaming big. As a child she wore prosthetics, but she would often be called names like robot girl and teased by classmates. Although some people were rude to her, Jessica had many others who encouraged her to be the best version of herself that she could be. For example, when she was very little she began to take dance lessons. She asked her teacher if she could be in the back row, but instead, her teacher said there is no back row and made her dance for everyone else. The day of the performance she got an overwhelming applause from the crowd and it really helped to boost her confidence and helped made her who she is today. (Jessica Cox Bio

Some people do not know that they are even someone’s hero. When a person has the power to stand strong and fight for what they believe in they too can be a hero. These are the type of people that give others hope and save lives each and every day. You do not have to have super powers to save someone, you do not have to be in a position or a career where the main goal is to save someone’s life such as a doctor, a policeman or a firefighter. Heroes can be everyday people, such as a teacher; who teaches kids the everyday essentials of life to grow and be a better person, a parent; who guides and raise their children and protect their children, and even a janitor or trash man; people that help keep the environment clean for our safety and…
