Ever believe the internet is taking over people’s lives? According to the United Nations agency there are over three billion people on the internet. But how many of those people on the internet become sucked into it? There’s an estimate of seventy-eight percent of people that have social media. People who have a social media account can occasionally get their life caught up in social media. Social media can become so addicting and there’s pros and cons of social media. Social media was created for one general purpose, and that is to connect with friends and family. Teens are young and often are trying to figure who they are themselves and want everyone to like them. Several teens social media accounts are part of their lives, they express their self and want to be liked based on who they are on social media. Being liked is extremely important to these teens and the more they’re liked they become internet famous. Becoming internet famous is easy any random person can become internet famous, the person just has to be liked by several others to build their fame. But a few people that become instant internet famous do not usually want the fame. In Jessica Bennett’s “The Flip Side of Internet Fame”, Bennett told how a student Ghyslain Raza became internet famous without wanting to. He was just filming videos of himself for his own entertainment and another student got a hold of the video and started posting it online. Raza was internet famous, but not to his liking, he was made fun of and bullied because of his video. His parents have tried everything to find out who post the video, but once something gets posted online and several have “retweeted”, like and shared the video it’s difficult to find the source. A few might turn to social media to reconnect with childhood or former friends even loved ones. In Marche’s, “Is Facebook Making Us lonely?”, he is debating on weather Facebook makes us lonely or takes away our loneliness. Being that the use of Facebook is to connect with others Marche thinks that Facebook can repair our loneliness. He feels that being on Facebook interacting with others defeats our lioness. In reality social media can also pull people away from actually socializing. Social media has also been known to tear apart relationships and friendships. Social media can be used for the determined reasons, but the internet can also be and has been used negatively. Everyone wants to see the internet as a way to make life easier by connecting and sharing ideas with everyone, but that’s not always the case. Bennett stated, “anybody can become a celebrity or a worldwide villain in an instant.” Bennett made a great point that everyone should take into consideration.
