Jesse Owens Research Paper

Jesse Owens did not become a track star overnight. Owens had many training sessions and had to keep up with school to make it to the Olympics. Owens also had to push through discrimination before he became the athlete we now know him as. In 1936, Jesse Owens won four gold medals in the olympics. The reason he was so successful was because of his leadership, dedication, and high ambition. Jesse Owen´s leadership was a huge part of his success. ¨ The 22 year-old sprinter made a mockery of Adolf Hitler's Nazi doctrine of Aryan supremacy, scoring a political victory for the United States and a moral victory for black people worldwide¨(Gale 1). He worked as the national director of physical education for negroes. Later, he became a director for minority employment at Ford Motor Company. Owens displayed his great leadership skills by how he taught the kids when he was the physical education director. Owens was put through intense training with coach, Larry Snyder. ¨Snyder who thought Owens´ race starts were too slow, made the athlete repeatedly practice starts that had him crouching tightly at the starting line¨(Greer 1). Without the intense training he would not be the fastest man in the world. Even though these training sessions were very intense Owens still came because of his love for the sport and his dedication. Owens had poor grades in high school so the summer before college he had to pass a series of exams that finally qualified him to enter college. Owens wanted to go to college to run track so bad that he used his summer time to take exams.
