Joest’s response to the importance of verbal communication skills, “Being a retail store verbal communication skills are extremely important in all sides of the business. Starting with the customer you have to use verbal communication as soon as they‘re in the store to make them feel welcome and ensure they have a pleasant experience that will make them want to be a repeat customer. Beyond that you have to use verbal communication skills to understand how you can best help the customer find what it is they are looking for. If they are not looking for one specific item you have to use those skills to determine what they’re particular situation is and try to help them find what it is that fits their needs as well as their budget. Those skills can come in handy when explaining the differences in products and getting the customer to buy a higher quality item than they might initially be looking at.
