Being poverty-stricken can lead people to take drastic actions in order to survive. During the '60s, poverty, among other things, was a huge issue and was made worse by all the riots, shootings, crimes, and murders. During this period, people were ruthless and full of rage. There was a lot of discrimination against African Americans with housing, education, and not earning the same amount of money as their peers. Remembering those who helped African Americans have the same experiences is important. One person who helped make that happen was Jesse Jackson. Jesse Jackson helped the world more than some people could imagine. Most of his work was done in the 1960s. He was involved in marches, sit-ins, boycotts, etc. All of this was to show the discrimination against African Americans. His speeches impacted people and affected the way they see the world. Jackson grew up poor and didn't have a lot of money, so he made sure he supported those who had the same as him. Jesse Jackson gave a famous speech at the Democratic National Convention speaking about homelessness and his role in it “This is not a perfect party”. We are not perfect people. Yet we are called to a perfect mission: our mission to feed the hungry; to clothe the naked; to house the homeless; to teach the illiterate; to provide jobs for the jobless; and to choose the human race over the nuclear race”(BHA). His speech represents the issues in America. His opinion on this matter is very important because he thinks African Americans should have the same opportunities. Along with his speeches, he gave another speech in 1979 when he spoke in South America to compare the conditions Middle East and Palestinians to African Americans in the United States (BHA). Jackson’s main goal in this speech was to make the people
