If I could meet any fictional character, I would choose to meet Jesper Fahey from the Six of Crows duology. First off, if you haven’t read this duology, you definitely should, because they are some of the best books I have ever read. Also, there will be spoilers in my answer, if you re planning to read it. Jesper is a seventeen-year-old boy, born in the beautiful farm lands of his home country, Novyi Zem. As a child, he was raised by his father, Colm Fahey, and his mother, Aditi Hilli, before his mother was taken due to her Grisha abilities. Chaim Potok’s The Chosen has quite a lot of intriguing characters, and Reb Saunders is no exception. In fact, he probably arouses the most interest in readers of all of the characters in the book. He leads a group of Hasidic Jews, and expects his son, Danny, to do the same when he grows older (although Danny wishes otherwise). Mr. Saunders takes study of the Talmud(the Jewish hold book) very seriously and requires all of those he has authority over to do the same. He can seem extremely closed-minded, suddenly going in to fits of rage at mentions of things he believes are “contaminated”.…

If you could choose anyone to be for a brief period of time, who would you be? A simple question you may think, but take a minute. There are so many people in the history of the world that it may seem impossible. Some may choose a historical figure like Abraham Lincoln, whereas others may choose a Celebrity like Samuel L. Jackson. In my case, I chose someone who has been an inspiration to me since I was a kid, Princess Leia Organa from Star Wars.…

Gordy has had the most valuable impact on Junior’s identity because it was Gordy who made Junior realize that he belongs in many myriad places, not just the tribe he hails from. For example, through Gordy, Junior comes to the realization that “ [he and Gordy] have a tribe of two" (Alexie 132). Gordy had planted the idea in Junior’s head that he was part of an innumerable, myriad collection of “tribes.” This proved to Junior that no matter how weird or different he is, he will always belong somewhere, and can take pride in knowing that he belongs. In addition to this, with Junior mentioning to Gordy how he believes that it is necessary to become white to be white, Gordy responds by saying “If that were true, then wouldn't all white people be…

This book tells the story of Damon Courtenay as he tries to overcome the adversities caused by haemophilia and Aids. After I finished this book, I was disappointed by the treatment people with HIV and Aids received, particularly by the men and women in the medical profession. I don't want to sound hypocritical and judge these people because personally, I don't know how I will react to such situation, particularly in the 1980’s where the knowledge of this disease was very low. I also believe that one cannot prepare for such situation, so it's understandable why they were so overwhelmed.…

Throughout its 239 years of independence, the United States of America has experienced peace, war, and just about everything in between. American culture has evolved significantly since the 18th century, and nothing more effectively represents its centuries of triumphs and tragedies than the literature of American authors. Specifically through short stories, these authors discuss both personal and societal concerns of their times, and simultaneously interweave themes of life, love, and happiness in their works. Three specific authors in American history – Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Sarah Orne Jewett, and Theodore Dreiser ¬– act as “moral purifiers” presenting their case through their creative works that, left up to the reader, may have a positive…
