Jerry had been thinking about how excited he was to get home and get into his bed and hide under the covers for days.Then, into the distance he sees some animal walking along the road, as he gets closer he realizes that it’s a man.
He pulls the car over next to the man and he says, “Where are you heading?”
“Into Silverton, it’s just 20 minutes. . .”
“Oh I know where that is, it’s pretty much on the way. Hop in, i’ll give you a ride.”
The hitchhiker climbed in and when the light hit his face, Jerry could see that he was not much older than he was. He had been trying to do this for weeks. He had run out of money and knew that he would starve and die without some source of income. Most nights he would just wait outside of stores and ask for change, but that day he was sick of being a beggar. He hated having to ask people, especially strangers, for help. He hated seeing the look on their faces when they saw him, the judgement, the disgust. He knew he had to come up with a new source of income other than hoping to receive even five dollars for one …show more content…
We didn’t even introduce ourselves yet! I’m Jerry Krown.” He said as he put out his hand to Paul.
“I’m Paul.” He said and right away felt chills all throughout his body.
How could I be so stupid and give him my real name. What am I thinking? I shouldn’t of waited so long. I need to do this now or I’m ruined. He thought as he clutched the knife in his pocket tighter. His hands began to sweat. His cheeks had sweat dripping down to his neck. His fingers were slightly shaking, and he breathed harder and harder.
“It’s been pretty difficult for my family to get back up on their feet after my wife died. I know I shouldn’t be telling you, but I want you to know that I understand how painful it is when you’re going through a rough time and how hard it is to get back up on your feet.”
“Your wife also passed away?” Paul said with his heart beating faster and faster in his chest. The adrenaline pumping throughout his body shook him at his core. His eyes began to tear and his heart began to ache.
