The 1996 film Jerry Maguire stars Tom Cruise who plays Jerry who is a an upcoming sports agent going through a challenging time in his career. As he has to face the reality of his company’s ethical behavior, Jerry decides to develop a more personal angle to the sports agency world therefore setting him apart from the rest of the sports management industry. Beginning the film Jerry is working for a large, well-known sports agency firm who is only focused on making the most profits like every other firm in the industry. Most of the agents in the company only worry about their athlete’s so they make their commission, one agent in particular is Bob- who ends up firing Jerry after Jerry has a change of heart and immediately calls all of Jerry’s athletes telling them awful rumors about him and why he was fired.

It’s the night before the draft and Jerry is this kids agent who is expected to be the number one draft pick. But later on that night while Jerry and him are having a strategy meeting Jerry finds out that Bob and the athlete’s father have gone behind his back and signed a contract with the agency that Jerry used to work for. Therefore breaking the verbal commitment that he had made to Jerry months in advance and taking away Jerry’s last major client. Before Jerry had his change of heart he was just like everyone else at his old agency, only caring about how much money he made. While under the stress of the job one night, Jerry decides that it’s too much and he wants to focus on what his best for his clients-which means less money. From this point on in the movie Jerry struggles but always does what he believes is best for his clients and actually gets to know them on a more personal level.
