One discovery I noticed was that William Forrester and J.D Salinger both became extremely isolated from society. Both wrote only one very popular book. J.D Salinger’s being The Catcher in the Rye and William Forrester’s being Forrester's Avalon Landing. We know that J.D salinger after his first book succeeded, moved to an estate in Cornish, New Hampshire, and attempted to withdraw from the world. He did not want to have anything to do with the paparazzi and media.…

    D. Salinger wrote The Catcher in The Rye , he let his childhood experiences influence his writings. The setting of the story takes place in New York, which is also where Salinger grew up. Like Holden, Salinger moved schools a lot, and his parents eventually decided to place him in a military academy. This can be seen towards the middle of the book, when Holden comes home and tells his younger sister that nothing bad will happen to him for getting kicked out of yet another boarding school. He quickly replies back about his dad saying, "No, he won 't. The worst he 'll do, he 'll give me hell again, and then he 'll send me to that goddamn military school” (pg. 166).…

Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger Session 2 Review The Catcher in the Rye, by J. D. Salinger, was an amazing book that forced me to open my eyes to what the mid 20th century was like. It is about the main character Holden, who flunked out of school, going around New York and doing foolish things. It forces him to contemplate what he wants to do with his life and who he wants to be. This question is something that everyone around that age has to decide for themselves, and this book taught me more about that choice.…

It is likely that Salinger also struggled, much like Holden, with coping with death and the realities of life. Salinger certainly was not a boy at the time of the war like Holden is in the novel, but he was just as unprepared for the sight of death and evil before his eyes. After the war and the release of Catcher in The Rye, Salinger was a recluse who refused to speak to the public much and did not publish another novel again. He despised modern society and that can be seen in the fact that when Salinger did choose to give interviews, he talked about how people were stealing his work and profiting off his fame and turmoil to write the book. He died doing so, he never came out of his reclusive state.…
