Jeremy Flemings: A Short Story

Improved Essays
The day was quite cool but still sunny with a bit of wind, the perfect day you could say. There are young couples, retirees scuttling about, teenagers skating in a no bicycle zone and families with children hoping for a relaxing break. The ice cream man looked exhausted but exuberant with the paying customers. The day had just started and he had made more money today than all of last week.
However on the park bench seat, there was a middle aged man with alert eyes but a depressed appearance carrying an oversized guitar case. Jeremy Flemings wasn’t the musical kind but a guitar case was his preferred way of carrying his sniper. The M2010 was the best sniper for the job; relatively lightweight but still damn accurate. It could shoot from more than a 2 km; making this an easy job.
And definitely his last.

Their deaths were shown by the media as “a mistaken identity drive-by attack”. Jeremy moved to live with his aunt and uncle in quiet French Canada far away from his horrifying childhood.
“Ma, can I have an ice-cream pleeease”, pleaded Charlie. “Why? Didn’t you just have breakfast?” replied his mom. She was hot and flustered and the day had just begun. And for what he ate, he was quite a slender boy. “No. How about a balloon instead?” replied Ma.”Fine. But I get two balloons.” declared Charlie.
Happily, Charlie followed his mom to the store but spotted a man who looked exhausted but had alert eyes. He also carried a guitar case. Charlie loved guitars especially as his dad would sometimes play it before he went to

In James Hurst’s short story entitled “The Scarlet Ibis,” Doodle’s brother, the protagonist, changed his attitude from proud to ashamed to illustrate the message that people who experience pride toward another often experience a change in perspective due to that pride. Hurst highlights this when, at the end of the story, the protagonist pushed Doodle to do many activities that Doodle could not do because of his weak heart. Doodle’s brother wanted Doodle to be like everyone else because the protagonist did not want to be embarrassed by his younger brother’s condition.
