Jeremiah's Hymn It Is Well With My Soul

Everyone i life goes through struggles but it is up to the individual to make sure that those struggles do not determine who you are or hold you back. In Peace Like a River and in the hymn It Is Well With My Soul both men go through many challenges in their life. Although one is a book and one is a poem, there are many distinct connections that can be made from the words and history of the hymn It Is Well With My Soul to the book Peace Like a River. Jeremiah goes through many tragedies in Peace Like a River just as the Author of It Is Well With My Soul did. During these tragedies both men never lost faith. “Peace Like a River” is the name of the book and is also a line from the hymn. Another line from the hymn states,”when sorrows like sea billows roll”. This line is a metaphor for the constant struggles and constant tragedies Jeremiah goes through throughout the book. Along with Jeremiah's struggles, Jeremiah shows great faith and a line from the hymn states,”It is well with my soul.” This line from the hymn represents how strong Jeremiah's faith is because no matter what happens in Jeremiah's life, he has nothing to fear or worries because God gives Jeremiah his strength. The hymn give great reference to the book when it says,”though trials should come” maybe this lyric gives an explanation to Jeremiah’s faith because Jeremiah has an extreme amount of tragedies or trials in his life and these tragedies or trials are gonna continue to happen but it is his faith, ground in God, that allows him to feel content with whatever happens in his life. In conclusion, the words from It Is Well With My Soul have a distinct correlation to the characters in Peace Like a
