“The reward for conformity,” Rita Mae Brown once said, “is that everyone likes you but yourself.” This meaningful quote expresses that individuals maintain hatred towards themselves in order to conform to horrible decisions and acts. Millions of people have attempted to conform to the actions of the world such as dressing a certain way, making bad decisions, or selecting a poor choice of friends, to experience the pleasure of fitting in, but the attempts to do so only made life even more agonized and disastrous. To be a conformist, one must first lose his or her own morals and instead focus on what society has in store, whether it may be good or bad. Expressed through the use of a great deal of violent and cruel acts, conformity is the main…

Most Americans like to think of The United States as a meritocracy. Children are and have been taught from a very young age that if you truly worked hard enough and focused, you could achieve anything you set your mind to. They often don’t mention the fact that sometimes hard work and attention may not be enough, and that in some places of America that will never be enough to truly achieve what you wish to accomplish. The book There Are No Children Here mentions on the front cover that there also exists “the other America.”…
Rebellion against the cultural norms determined by society can lead an individual into some of the most defining moments in their life. Most of the time, I am judged because I go against the crowd. However, going against the crowd is what has defined and shaped who I am. I am not afraid to go against the expectations when my convictions drive my decisions. I see value in being an individual, and I have never felt the need to apologize for the qualities that make me different.…

According to Minny, Sugar ditch is “..as low as you can go in Mississippi, maybe the whole United States..…
I think this poem captures exactly what the title says. I feel that you captured the tone and pace of the music you selected almost perfectly. There is only one small part in the first stanza where you use Claire De Lune which I hear as an entirely peaceful song. I had a hard time visualizing the torment of and heartache you describe at the end of that stanza.…
The author Cathy Davidson in the book Now You See It highlights learning and attention as two important concepts that require a tremendous transformation in the educational field due to the multiple changes students and educators are facing in this century such as new jobs ´skills, more individualistic learning manners and ineffective testing modes that shape the new epistemological system of education. Oxford dictionary defines learning as “The acquisition of knowledge or skills through study, experience, or being taught” and attention as “Notice taken of someone or something; the regarding of someone or something as interesting or important.” These two concepts have been keys on every chapter of the book which basically works in order from when learning and attention were applied ineffectively in a society that was being constructed for a homogeneous mass. However, by facing these problems, the author decides to change the educational system´s reality and challenges the assumptions about the manners of learning in different countries and places.…
