Susan Cain’s article “Not Leadership material? Good the world needs followers” explores the controversy in the overemphasis of leadership skills which many argue, especially in college admissions, have emptied their meaning. In this article, the author’s main claim is that a well-functioning society needs followers, anticipating each other’s strengths and weaknesses, utilizing their special skills in their own ways, and it also needs leaders who are called to service rather than to status.
