The story of the “Jena Six” incident it was a tragedy in the sense these young men might have to pay a maximum penalty for a small crime. As Americans we like to think that we are more progressive than the issues presented in Jena, Louisiana on December 4, 2006. These systems are: micro, meso, exo, macro & chrono. It is helpful to see the flaws in a system by carefully examining each separate piece to make a more complete whole.
The micro system includes everyone who is close to a person. Direct contacts such as in the home, school, family, peer group and work colleagues. Students at Jena High all have micro systems, in which, all the people they are close to, are a part. All the individuals at the school are a part of the schools micro system. The meso system is all the connections between micro systems. All individual micro systems can be interconnected and therefore have an effect on a person. The students at Jena High School all have connections between their micro systems. An example of this in a school setting would be the principal’s relationship with a teen’s parent. The exo system contains connections to one of the micro systems (but not two micro systems), and expands outside your direct circle. It can also be environmental. This can be how someone on the school board relates to a parent of a Jena High School student. The macro system involves schools, communities, culture and society. At Jena High, the macro system includes: cultural barriers, community disconnect and racial segregation. The chrono system would include changes over time such as: societal changes, cultural changes, and environmental changes. The chrono system may appear after the situation at Jena High School is dealt with. It may include positive changes to the school system, society, culture or environment at Jena High
